Don’t Be Greedy

Once upon a time, there lived a greedy dog. He found a piece of bread and he was very happy. He began to walk up and down the hills and at last he came to a stream. He had to cross the stream by the bridge. While he was crossing the bridge, he saw his own reflection and thought that it was another dog with a piece of bread. He was very greedy and he wanted the other piece of bread too. He began to bark and the piece of bread dropped. So he lost the piece of bread he had. He went back home sad and miserable.

Don’t Be Greedy

Once upon a time there was a bird, it was flying with a piece of bread and sat on the tree near the stream. It was looking at it’s reflection in the stream when suddenly a fox came running searching for food. It saw the bird with bread. The fox said, “ I know your father, he sings beautifully. Can you sing like him?” the bird said, “Of course I can,” Just then, the piece of bread dropped from its mouth the fox caught the bread and ran away. The bird went after the fox but all in vain. The fox ate it and went back to its home.

A Friend in need is a friend indeed

Once there was a girl named Nikita. As she was new in school, she felt very lonely. She saw a girl in the class. Nikita asked her name. She said, “My name in Rina”. She then asked do you have any friends at that moment she started crying. Nikita asked, “why are you crying?”, she answered that she didn’t have any. Nikita told her not to cry and offered to be her friend. From that day they both had become friends. Nikita lived with her mother in a rented house because they were new in that place. Nikita and Rina were true friends. They used to share their pens, pencils etc. in school. One day in the school playground Rina fell from the swing. Nikita helped her and took her to hospital. When the doctor checked Rina he found that Rina had broken a bone. When the doctor gave the bad news to Nikita, she was very sad. She called her mother and her mother came to the hospital. The doctor said that Rina could not go to school for one month. From that day onwards, Nikita used to help her friend by giving her notes and explaining the lessons. She kept telling her that she will get well soon. Nikita always used to write letters to her,

My dear friend Rina,
I always pray to god for you that you will get well soon. Take your medicine regularly. Go for check up once every week. I hope you will get well soon. I am looking forward to going to school together and having fun.
Your best friend
Nikita
One month passes and on the last day of the month, Nikita went to Rina’s house and from there they went to the hospital. When the doctor checked her up he told her that her bone had healed but she should not run or play on the swing for one week. She could go to school. That news made Nikita and Rina’s mother were very happy. Again both of them started going to school together.

A Friend in need is a friend indeed

Ten years ago when I was a little girl, a new student joined our school. She was from America. She was lonely and shy but no one cared. So, she introduced herself and said her name was Simran and when she sat down she started crying but no one took any notice. The day passed and school was over. Her parents came to pick her up and she was happy, she stopped looking sad, shy, and every one was amazed. The next morning, I came to school and in the first period, I started thinking about how lonely a girl could be at school not having any friends. When the fourth period ended it was lunchtime and when she was going to sit down and eat, she fell and her lunch got spilled, so she could not eat it , I helped her up and shared my lunch with her and we became the best of friends after that.

Two years past and we are in class seven. Simran and I were not just friends but we felt like sisters and like we met a long time ago and we knew each other well. Since we were all grown up we hated playing toys and playing games, but it was a great shock one day when we wanted to spend our last day as children before we turned thirteen. We went to the old park where we played on the swing together, for the last time and left. A year since that very day bad news reached Simran and me; It was my parents who told me the bad news. They said we would be moving to England the next month. I told Simran the news the very next day at school and she was sad. A month passed and my parents and I went to the airport and before leaving Simran gave me a photo album of the years we spent together. In return I gave her a card that I stuck a picture taken a year ago on the day we left our childhood life. We said our final good byes and set off for England. I realized that a friend in need whom I knew three years ago turned out to be the best friend indeed.

A Friend in need is a friend indeed

After the day I shifted to my new house, I was lonely as I had no friend. One day when I was in the backyard playing with my dog I tripped on a stone and hurt myself. Suddenly my neighbor saw me. We had never met before but she came to help me and took me to the doctor. I was slightly injured. Now I knew what a true friend was. From then she always came to my home and took care of me. Soon after I got well, I visited her house. We always visited each other in the weekend and played the whole day and always went to school together. We were best friends and of course no one could separate us. We shared everything we got.

One day we went to the park and she told me, lets play the swing, but I didn’t want to. But still she didn’t listen to me and forced me to push her on the swing. The swing went up high and suddenly “ahaaa” she fell off from the swing and broke her arm. Her mother called the ambulance as the hospital was too far. But the ambulance service was not available. My family and I took her to the hospital. She was badly injured. She had high fever and broke her arm. She called me to her bedside. I talked to her about not listening to me. After sometime, she felt much better.

A True Friend

I joined this school from Nursery. That time, I didn’t have a true friend but I had friends. When I joined class U.K.G a new student came. Her name was Shristi Kandoi. That time, she was not my friend and she was alone. After sometime, we became friends in class one. That time, we didn’t know the meaning of friendship. We used to play and whenever we broke our friendship for some reasons we used to cry in our heart. But the same day we used to be friends because we were true friends. One day, I was playing on the swing and I fell down from a great height and my friend helped me. My friend also fell down and I also helped her. We used to share our things with each other. In class four we understood the meaning of friendship in true terms. Whenever she needed my help I would help her and whenever I needed her help she would help me. Whenever I was not with her, I would think about her, I think she also thinks about me.

I don’t know if this called true friendship but my heart says it is. Right now also I am with her sitting by her side. We are in class five and still we are friends. I think she will remember me when she grows up but I know I will never forget her.

A Friend in need is a friend indeed

At once after coming from school my father brought a film of a true friend. In the film there was a boy named Sam. He does not have any friend because nobody likes him. He used to play alone, study alone and he used to always get hurt but instead of helping him others would laugh at him. After a year a kind and nice boy joined the school. His name was Jack. After a year he knew that there was a boy called Sam whom nobody liked. The boy called Jack came first in every thing. Once on the sports day there was a running race. Sam and Jack were also in the race Jack came first and Sam came second at that time. Sam fell down and when Jack saw he stopped and helped him. After that they became good friends and their friendship lasted forever.

Tit for Tat

A huge forest was the home of many creatures. One of the animals was a cunning fox. His friend was a young crane. The fox had grown weak and was unable to hunt for prey. He thought of a plan. He gave the crane a pitcher of soup to drink. The fox had mixed something special in there, which would make the crane sleep for days. The crane devoured that soup and fell asleep. Then, the fox went to the crane’s house and killed the relatives. When the crane woke up, he found out the truth. He went to the wise and clever tortoise living in a riverbank. The Tortoise suggested a plan.

The crane went to the fox’s house and said “Dear fox”. I have discovered that even a drop of water from the lake makes foxes strong. The greedy fox went to the lake. Unaware that the lake was the home of Pirahnas, he jumped into the lake. The Pirahnas almost killed him but he managed to escape. He was bruised badly. He had been repaid for what he had cunningly done. Thus, he never caused sorrow to anyone again.

The Lion and the Jackal

Once upon a time in Africa lived a jackal and a lion. One day when the lion was hunting he saw a jackal eating a large piece of goat meat. Seeing the meat he thought of stealing the piece of meat because he was very hungry to find his own food. Then he went to the jackal and asked him to give him the meat, but the jackal was also very hungry and almost died getting the piece of meat. So the jackal refused. The lion got angry and asked the jackal again to give the meat or he would kill him. Then the jackal got scared but still did not want to give him the meat so, he thought of a plan. Then he told the lion that he knew where he could get even a bigger piece of meat to eat. Then the lion told the jackal to tell him where to get the meat then the jackal told the lion. Then the lion went to the place but the lion was killed by the owner of the goat who thought the lion was the one who killed his goat.

Once upon a time there lived a cunning fox, which lived in the middle of an extended wood. There also lived a clever crane near the house of the fox. One fine day the crane was invited by the fox for supper. The crane accepted the invitation and when day turned to dusk he strolled to the fox’s house. Awaiting his guest fox sat with a sly smile and a glint in his eyes. Crane reached the house of the fox. His host seated him. Fox brought a plate of hot, delicious soup. The crane smacked his lips and tried to drink some soup. But his long beak prevented him from drinking the soup. He had to return to his house on an empty stomach. He too invited the fox over for supper to return the favor.

The fox reached the cranes house before sunset and sat drooling in the crane’s house. The crane brought a long a glass full of staring soup. The crane drank away the soup but as fox couldn’t possible drink the soup. He too returned to his house empty stomach. So it was ‘Tit for Tat”.

Tit for Tat

Once upon a time there was a very cunning and a clever fox. One hot afternoon that fox was walking on the bank of a river hungry and tired. He had nothing to eat for days. As he was walking he saw a crane catching fish. As he was hungry he went near the crane and said, “Would you like to share that fish which you have caught out there”. The crane was very kind so he said, “ok”. And they ate the fish. As the fox was very hungry he asked for more but this time the crane said, “my friend I think you are very hungry but these are my fish. You have to learn to catch fish yourself. I have to take this to my family because they are going to make soup. “Your are also invited if you want to come”. The fox was very hungry so he stole the fishes and ran away. The crane wanted to teach the fox a lesson. So he went to find the fox and after walking miles he found the fox and he said, “My friend, I understand why you stole the fish. Do you want to come to the old well? I heard there is a big fish over there.” They went to the old well at night and started hunting for the fish. The crane said to the fox, “Go down the well in the bucket and catch the fish and then I will pull you up”. Then the fox went down and after two hours he shouted to the crane to pull him up. The crane said, “My friend stealing is not a good habit, because you stole my fish. I did this to you, “Tit for tat”.

A Day When Everything Went Wrong

It was just one of those days; I had waited for so long. It was a windy day and I was on the playground with my team, and as a goalkeeper I had an important role to play. It was the final of the inter class football tournament.

The match started with the referee’s whistle, sounding like a “RUN FOR YOUR LIFE” alarm to me. The opponent team started attacking us fiercely from the beginning. The first shot fortunately did not hit the target. The fourth strike, a meek one, was on target. It would be an easy shot to save but………, I missed it. I was shivering from head to toe and was very nervous. I got a shout from the captain, which almost knocked me down. There were not many shots after that and our team scored a goal. The opponent team started attacking the post once again. In five minutes there were two shots, both on target. The first one was unexpected and I missed it. I was badly shaken, as I had not missed a strike that evening. The second strike too went into the goal. The time started running out quickly. I had no idea what was going on. I looked here and there but alas! There were more strikes. I stopped a few but all the others went inside. The match was over finally.

I somehow had figured out we had lost the match, (due to my fault), nine-three. I got a dirty look from all my teammates and a scolding from the captain. So, this was a day of bad luck and was the day when everything went wrong.

A Memorable Day

Sometimes luck favors people but other times they don’t, I think it was just a starting of spring season and a nearly end of the great icy winter season. Our school makes us take many classes of UCMAS and gymnastics. As I was a good student in UCMAS, my teachers had selected me in the national competition of UCMAS, which was to be held on 22 December. After some weeks practice, the great day of 22 December came, I headed for the DECC hall at Tripureshor. At 7:00,the competition started, which was for 8 minutes and we had to finish 125 sums on which I could just complete 75.Then I did my best and returned home. At the time of 3:30 I guess I heard the phone ring. I picked up the phone, where to my great surprise, that I was ranked in any position.

With my father we headed for DECC. After half an hour my name was announced for bringing up the highest rank in Nepal champions seat. I was clicking photos with my father, when his phone rang, and he lost his face’s color. He didn’t tell me anything and just took me back to the house. To my great surprise, I saw my maternal uncle and aunt hurt and crying. My small sister got so scared, that she lost her balance and just fainted. My aunts and uncles were all horrified, shocked and my mother was also afraid. We all got so scared. I was still holding my trophy near the burning house, when suddenly I heard a strange voice coming from inside, when I realized that my small maternal uncle was inside the house. So I called all my relatives and told them that. But something strange happened automatically someone pushed me inside the room, of the burnt house, where my uncle was lying half-dead. I got so scared that my big uncle just came and took my uncle out, and me too but when I came out I realized my trophy was burnt inside where it turned into ashes. I rushed to get that , without telling anyone, when I was returning a piece of wood hit me in my hand and I fainted. I had fractured my hand and I remained at home for several days. My trophy was fine, and whenever, I see the trophy and burnt mark in my hand, I can never forget that day, which is memorable in my life. I will never forget that day in my life ever.

A Day I Will Never Forget

It was a rainy day and I got up late. That day was my birthday. Then all my family members called and wished me. But my own mom, dad and brother forgot that it was my birthday. I went to my room and started to cry. Then I went to school and all my friends wished me but yet I was not happy. Then school got over. Then my car came to pick me up. I went home. He did not take my name. He took me to the Hotel Annapurna. Then the driver told me to go and play in the park. When I went there I saw that it was someone’s birthday celebration going on. I wanted to see so I went there. It was so dark and candles were burning. I got scared and wanted to go back but I saw a cake there. I went to see whose it was. It was written Happy Birthday to you. I was wishing that it would be my cake and I started to cry. Just then the light came on and I got scared. I wiped away my tears. I saw my parents and family members. I ran and hugged my parents tightly. They apologized for causing me anxiety but they wanted to give me a surprise. And what a surprise it was!

A Day I Will Never Forget

When I was walking down the road, I felt the soft and crisp spring breeze passing across my face, and it was really pleasant at seven-thirty in the morning. I was thinking, “Home… what will happen today at the Report card day at school”. I was confused, scared, nervous; whether what I had dreamt last night would come true. I had learnt that I had come 7th in class. I had a very funny feeling, my stomach had butterflies.(for those who have experienced this know what I mean). It wasn’t something to be so’ jittery’ about, but it was my dream that put an extra tension. Well, what would a nine –year old, fourth- grader like me expect?

Finally it was time to go, and I practically jumped inside the taxi. As soon as we reached school. I got that ‘butterfly’ feeling again. I was hoping at that time, that my dream would come true, because I was really desperate to come seventh. I went to my class teacher’s table, and to my widest surprise, saw that I was really 7th! I was so happy! I told this to Principal ma’am and even she smiled.

This is one thing I ‘will never forget all my life! Why seventh? And not first?

A Day When Everything Went Wrong

I was sitting below the mango tree near my home. Hari’s son, my friend, came along and told me about his day. That was the day when everything went wrong. He said to me “ I had slept late the night before the horrible day. I woke up late and missed my school bus. I was standing on the local bus stop for half- on – hour but all the buses came packed. I had to walk to school that day. I stepped in a mud puddle and dirtied my clothes. So I had to go back home, change my clothes and walk all the way to school, which was two and a half kilometers away from home. I was hungry and I had only ten rupees. I bought a doughnut but dropped it, and the next time I would get to eat was at 12.o’clock in my school. I reached school at 11 and found out the day was Saturday. I was angry with myself. I returned home and it was already 1.o’clock and I was very hungry. I checked the refrigerator and there was just some jam. I spent all my pocket money to buy a game CD, which didn’t even work. ‘I was sad to hear his story. It was 5. o’ clock already. He said goodbye and was walking but he slipped on a banana peal and fell down. He then shouted to me. “Now do you know which day did all this happen?”, Then I realized it was Saturday.

An Unforgettable Incident

It’s a story about a man who had a small and a happy family. But a time came when he started moving with a bad group of people. He never used to report to his work on time. He started drinking heavily and started being irresponsible towards his family. He never cared about his wife and how his children were doing in school. Sometimes he did not come home for a few days.

Soon he stopped caring about his married life and carried on with his drinking habit. He left the house and went loitering around from place to place. At the same time, back at home his wife was very scared and started spending the time alone. Her children were young and innocent and were not aware of the problems that their mother faced.

One fine morning, the maid went to the wife’s room and found her lying unconscious on the floor. The maid immediately called their family friends. Later they took her to the hospital and found out that she was suffering from mental pressure. One of her family friends went in search of her husband and found him lying on the park heavily drunk. He took the husband straight to the hospital and told him about his wife’s condition.

Only then he realized that the most important thing was his family and stopped drinking and lived a happy life with his family.

An Unforgettable Incident

Those days were the best days of my life. It had been many years; I really missed my sister and her interesting stories. Now, it was time for me to go home for the annual vacations. I was really very happy to hear that I am joining a school near my home and I did not have to leave my home for at least one session.
My mom died the day I was born from that day my father was both my friend and my mom. He was very happy to see me home and I was very happy too. I went with my father to many places on my vacation. Finally, the day came when I had to go to a new school and make new friends. The days were passing well. Every Sunday my father and I used to have lots of fun, at home. I used to water the plants and he used to cook a lovely cake for me. Yummy! It was so tasty. We used to go for a movie and sometimes for shopping.
One day when I returned from school I did not find my father. I thought he had gone out for work and would be back soon. But, it was late at night when he returned home. He looked disturbed. When I asked him he told me not to worry. The next day I saw him he taking some medicine. When I asked him he said it was for his bones. The days were passing normally. My father was quite normal at home and I was really happy. I was getting closer to him. Suddenly one day I saw him coughing up blood. His face and his handkerchief was full of blood. I urged him to say what the matter was. His two words ‘Blood Cancer’! That shocked and disturbed me, I became like a statue there. The whole night I sat with my father thinking about the future.

Next day it was time for me to go to school. I really did not want to go. But I had to force myself. ‘I was not able to concentrate in my studies. I neither enjoyed my games nor the delicious food. I was in a great hurry to go home.
I was running all the way home. When I reached there I found the door unlooked. I saw my father as if he was but could make out clearly. I called him and there was no answer. I again called him but still no answer… He was not there with me, caring for me. I did not know what to do.
Today, it’s been four years of that incident. But, I still remember his kind and loving words to me. Still I long for his lovely delicious cake. I want to forget that unforgettable incident when I lost my father. That loss still haunts me.

An Unforgettable Incident

Sometimes things don’t happen according to one’s plan. With me nothing happens according to plan. Once uncle had planned to take my brother, my aunt, my cousin sister, my mother and me to a movie. “Oh great!” I thought, as a teenager I’m a little skeptical about traveling or watching a movie with my younger brother. He might get bored in the middle and demand to go home or he might get scared and shout on the top of his voice, but my thoughts are always contrary to my mother’s. Anyway, my uncle arrived with his and we all started “choosing” our seats. Then after we were all seated.

We were moving towards ‘Jai Nepal’ but to our distress our car got punctured. ‘Wow, I love this” I said sarcastically. My uncle went to fetch the mechanic. After half an hour my uncle came sprinting like an athlete putting his heart and soul to finish the race and behind him a short, fat man came trying his level best to walk fast, Oh God! We are here stuck in the middle of nowhere and this man is taking his own sweet time). He finally reached ‘Our’ jalopy and started changing the tire. After forever (45minutes) we moved from there again. ‘We can still make it exclaimed, oh sure, yeah, of course we’ll make it”. I said using sarcasm once again. We reached Jai Nepal and missed only the brginning of the movie. It was a nice movie, with popcorn and an embarrassing brother standing up and loudly. “Oh, no, what’s going to happen to her”. After the movie, we ate at the ‘bakery café’ and then to our delight “our car” got stuck in the mud quick sand more like it!!) And my uncle and my cousin sister and all of us started pushing the jeep out of the mud. I had gone to call other people. Was I convinced? After some “generous” people came to our rescue and we moved ahead in “full speed”, 10 km per hour was more like it after I reached home I swore never to go watch a movie with a 10 year old and in a second hand car. (it was not actually second hand).

A Funny Incident

It was a cold day in January when I woke up early in the morning but the clock on the wall showed 9 o’clock. I was shocked for a moment and then realized that I had an extra class to attend to that day at 9:30 A.M. sharp and the tall and formidable teacher was too strict to forgive me for being late for the class. I jumped out of my bed, got ready and I carried my books and rushed to the school. On the way, I realized that I had taken the wrong books and the thought of getting punishment disturbed me. I was about to reach the school but to prevent the punishment for bringing the wrong books,, I was forced to turn back home to correct my mistake. When I reached home the clock showed 9:35 A.M. and I was already late. I was tired but the class was really important. I ran back to school. On the way, a man having orange juice spilled it on my dress and my shirt changed to yellow color from white. It was too late for me to go back and change and I was extremely tired. I moved slowly towards school feeling very sad and wait very afraid of the punishment I would get. When I reached school, I looked at the school clock and saw that it was 9 o’clock and I realized that my clock at home was spoilt. I ran to the class and found no one there. I was shocked. I went to the gatekeeper and inquired why? No one was there. Then I was informed that it was the teacher’s birthday that had cancelled the extra class and gave the students a holiday. I felt happy and funny at that moment and returned back home. This was the most memorable and funny day I have ever experienced in my life.

An unfortunate incident

It was a peaceful day and I was reading a book in my study room. Mom was preparing dinner in the kitchen and dad was working on some papers. The Sherma family had moved into the neighborhood the day before. I went to visit them and had a good talk. They were from the village and were trying to adapt to a new life-style of living. However I said goodbye and returned to my place. The next morning I saw that they were moving in some things that they needed for their daily use. That night while mom was preparing dinner and I was reading a book in my study room I heard some shouts from the neighbors and that were the time when an unfortunate incident took place. Their house was on fire, there were lots of shouts and screams I told this to my mom went out and called an ambulance and fire brigades. Later the fire brigades arrived and put off the fire. The Sherma family was taken o the hospital in an ambulance. However noone was hurt seriously. Later through investigation the police found out that there was a leak in the gas cylinder and it caught fire when a matchstick was lighted to cook the food. They found that the leak was due to the damage of the regulator. All the important files of Mr. Sherma was burnt the house almost completely burnt down. The police thanked me for calling the fire brigade and the ambulance. Later I supported Mr. Sherma to raise charity. And we successfully raised enough to start a new life.
